Job Description:

The Winthrop Elementary School is looking for a Special Education teacher for an Intensive Learning Program servicing students in grades PreK - 2. The successful Special Education teacher candidate will work in partnership with program staff, parents, and school staff in accordance with the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District mission and vision, while complying with Federal and State regulations in order to promote student inclusion and achievement.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
*Complete all associated paperwork including monitoring student performance, data collection, share in responsibilities for writing IEPs and progress reports, etc.

*Participate in the Team process (Initial Evaluations, Annual Reviews, and Reevaluation Team Meetings, parent conference, team consultations)

*Maintain communication between teachers, specialists, families, and any outside providers

*Conduct academic/functional skills/behavior assessments individually or as part of a multidisciplinary evaluation

*Develop behavior plans and individual programs for students
*Implement direct/explicit instruction focused on ADLs, behavioral strategies, and support to content areas utilizing multi-sensory teaching, differentiated strategies, language-based techniques, and applied behavioral analysis for students in grades PreK-2 with severe special needs receiving services in a substantially separate classroom.

*Promote and assist in the implementation of research-based strategies to ensure the transition and generalization of students’ academic and social skills throughout the school community.

*Utilize appropriate classroom management strategies, including a comprehensive positive behavior intervention system, to ensure a successful and motivating instructional environment within the classroom and throughout the school.

*Use a multi-disciplinary approach to gather various sources of information for progress monitoring in order to routinely implement data-based decision-making practices to guide instruction and lesson planning.

*Provide supervision of program ESPs.

*Coordinate student and staff schedules to ensure compliance with IEP requirements and the efficient use of resources.

*Perform other duties as determined by building Principal, Elementary Coordinator of Special Education, and/or Director of Student Services.

Job Requirements

Master’s Degree in Special Education, required;
Massachusetts Educators License - Severe Disabilities;
A minimum of two years’ successful experience as a special education teacher in an elementary public school or special education private school setting preferred;
Experience with development and implementation of individual and whole class behavior support plans;
Expertise with access and entry points to MA Standards and curriculum modification;
Knowledge of the requirements of state and federal regulations;
Proficiency in educational diagnostic and prescriptive testing;
Assistive Technology and AAC experience;
Strong ability to collaborate with all staff;
Citizenship, residency or work visa required
