Job Description
The Behavior Intervention Para works as a support to the Behavior Interventionist and School Counselor to meet the behavioral needs of students who have lagging social-emotional skills and those who struggle with appropriate behaviors. The paraprofessional will collaborate with the School Leadership team to provide targeted interventions for identified students. He/she may assist with progress monitoring (data collection) related to behavior plans or other other evidence based practices for the students. The paraprofessional must demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, cooperative teamwork, good communication skills and the ability to be flexible in daily routines.
Essential Job Functions
In collaboration with the building administrator and the Behavior Interventionist the behavior intervention paraprofessional will be responsible for the following:
- Collaborate regularly with the behavior interventionist, school counselor and administration regarding student progress and behavioral needs
- Collect intervention and behavioral data as needed
- Provide interventions as outlined by the Behavior Interventionist, to students at the Tier II level
- Implement brain breaks, sensory walks, and sensory breaks to students as determined by the Behavior Interventionist.
- Support and participate in the effective implementation of the Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI2) framework.
- Build relationships with individual students and maintain positive rapport
- Deliver focused social, emotional and/or behavioral interventions through one-on-one and small group instruction
- Model and teach regulation skills and co-regulate with students when needed
- Support Second Step and Conscious Discipline instruction and follow up with individual practice as needed
- Support the school leadership team in building initiatives
- Participate in training to learn strategies for de-escalation and behavior modification
- Maintain current knowledge of behavioral intervention practices and related areas of study
- Maintain confidentiality of all student information
- Support and promote the district’s mission, vision and values
- Perform other duties as assigned
