Job Title: Behavior Intervention Paraprofessional
Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Special Services
Compensation: Hourly Rate per Collective Bargaining Agreement + Annual Stipend ($3500, based on district approval)

Job Summary
The Behavior Intervention Paraprofessional provides targeted support to students exhibiting challenging behaviors, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment. Working under the supervision of a licensed teacher or behavior specialist, the paraprofessional implements individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), assists in crisis prevention, supports social-emotional development, and contributes to the data collection process for student progress monitoring.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs): Follow student-specific behavior plans as directed by licensed staff.
- Behavioral Support: Proactively address and manage challenging behaviors using de-escalation strategies, positive reinforcement, and evidence-based techniques.
- Social-Emotional Support: Provide consistent emotional support and facilitate student use of coping strategies and social skills.
- Crisis Intervention: Use approved protocols (e.g., TCIS) during crisis situations to ensure student and staff safety.
- Data Collection: Document behavioral incidents, intervention responses, and student progress for use by the IEP or MTSS team.
- Collaboration: Attend meetings, consult with staff, and contribute observations to help guide individualized student support plans.
- Professional Development: Participate in required and ongoing training in behavior management, trauma-informed care, and de-escalation techniques.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Prior experience working with children or youth with behavioral needs is preferred.

- Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information
- Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively as part of a team
- Certifications: Training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) and Behavior Intervention Specialist Certificate or willingness to obtain required certifications.
Working Conditions
- Work may occur in classrooms, hallways, sensory spaces, or other school settings.
- May involve physical activity and the use of trained de-escalation techniques.
- Regular exposure to emotionally intense or high-stress situations.
- Must be able to physically respond to student needs when necessary, including standing, kneeling, or moving quickly to ensure safety.
Compensation and Stipend
In recognition of the specialized support required in this position, an annual stipend of $3500 will be awarded in addition to the regular hourly wage. The stipend amount is subject to Board approval and reviewed annually.
