Summary: The Bus Paraprofessional will assist in the safe transportation of special education students to ensure a safe and hazard free environment for all students.
Responsibilities:
Provide a safe and comfortable environment for students who ride the bus.
Monitor and assist students with special needs until released to a teacher, designated school employee, or parent/guardian.
Ensure that students are seated before the vehicle is in motion. Assist students in refastening seat belts as necessary.
Observe student behavior and take positive action in correcting behavioral problems.
Assist in bus emergency evacuation.
Assist in the proper securement of wheelchairs.
Assist in proper passenger restraint securement.
Assist with any medical condition a student may have.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
BA or Associates degree in Educational Assistant and teacher certification preferred; related work experience preferred.
Must have communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, staff, and parents.
Prior experience working with children.
Ability to lift 45 pounds.
Willing to work split hours for AM and PM routes.
Schedule: School Year Up to 5 hours per day/5 days a week
Compensation: Level I - $13.76 - $16.12 per hour Level II - $15.13 - $17.71 per hour for certified teacher
