Knowledge Road is hiring a full-time Special Education Teacher (SETSS) to join our team and offer vital support to students in NYC Department of Education (DOE) schools. With a significant shortage across the city of qualified special education professionals, your expertise is in high demand to ensure students receive the individualized instruction they deserve. As a SETSS provider with Knowledge Road, you will deliver individualized and small-group instruction in school settings, collaborating closely with families and school teams to support student advancement and academic growth.
Responsibilities
As a Special Education Teacher (SETSS) with Knowledge Road, you will:
Offer high-quality, individualized, and small-group instruction to students with disabilities, according to their Individualized Education Service Programs (IESP).
Ensure completion of each student's weekly IESP requirements and maintain an intervention schedule aligned to the school timetable.
Prepare and submit quarterly progress reports and maintain bi-weekly family communication with clear updates on progress and next steps.
Document service delivery and student performance in Knowledge Road's system with accurate, timely documentation.
Create and implement engaging and effective lesson plans that address the specific academic, social, and emotional needs of each student.
Collaboratively work with parents, teachers, and other school staff to build a supportive and inclusive learning environment for your students.
Track and evaluate student progress, providing ongoing updates to families and school based teams.
Engage in IESP meetings as needed, contributing valuable insights and recommendations to promote student success.
Qualifications
NYS Students with Disabilities (B-2, 1-6, 7-12, or All Grades) or NYS Literacy Specialist.
At least 2 years of relevant experience.
Must not have been employed by NYC DOE within the last 12 months.
Experience teaching Math and ELA.
Reliable transportation.
NYC DOE fingerprinting status/approval is required, or a readiness to obtain them before starting.

Schedule & Location
This is a full-time, school-day position with a schedule that aligns with the NYC DOE calendar. Services will be provided on-site at a school in Brooklyn, with assignments determined by student requirements. Hours/week are driven by IESP mandates; caseload can fluctuate by assignment. Typically ~20-30 hours/week, depending on placements, with additional cases and hours available when you coordinate with our recruitment team.
Compensation
$60 - $100 per hour (1099). Rate varies by group size and assignment. Individual IESP sessions generally start at $60/hr.
