Paraprofessional Job Coach

 

POSITION PURPOSE:  The paraprofessional job coach will be a member of the transdisciplinary team of individuals serving students in the instructional program.  This person will work under the supervision/direction of classroom teachers, or related service personnel, and will assist them in personal, social, instructional, and vocational skills needs. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The duties assigned will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists and cares for personal needs of students
  • Implements activities/skill practice developed by the teacher from the IEP
  • Provides instruction in school and community settings
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information regarding the student
  • Collects and summarizing student progress data as directed by the classroom teacher
  • Provides and arranging for transportation to community-based sites
  • Provides general supervision to students under the teacher’s direction
  • Monitors student’s social/vocational abilities through written documentation and observation
  • Participates, as appropriate, in IEP conferences
  • Displays flexibility and problem-solving to adapt to the changing needs of the students and the worksites
  • Provides support/training for work sites
  • Understands and implements emergency procedures
  • Understands and implement CPI techniques, when appropriate

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION NECESSARY TO CLARIFY JOB FUNCTIONS:           

  • Paraprofessional Job Coaches in the special education program for students with disabilities include:
  • Basic sign language and/or experience preferred
  • Break jobs into smaller tasks
  • Assist students with some personal needs
  • Be able to perform 1 – 2 person lifts and/or transfers according to training specifics by ECSEC physical therapists
  • Be able to lift 50 – 100 pounds (possibly lifting with another adult up to 150 pounds)
  • Participate in Crisis Prevention Intervention training
  • Paraprofessional Job Coaches being employed will receive in-service training on the following issues:
  • The role of the paraprofessional to the therapists and teachers
  • Characteristics of the exceptionalities of the identified students
  • Confidentiality
  • Implementing instructional activities
  • Student motivation, behavior modification
  • Communication and time management

  

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • One of the following is required:
    • Have 48 hours of college credit or higher
    • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
    • ParaPro Assessment with a score of 460 or higher
    • Be willing to complete 10 modules in the online training platform Paraeducator within 2 months of employment at GCS (free training resources provided)
  • Six months to a year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Possess an ability to problem solve and follow directions
  • Possess an ability to adapt and be flexible to formats within the educational setting (community-based instruction and inclusive teaching models)
  • Be prompt and assertive
  • Demonstrate the ability to organize
  • Demonstrate the ability to cooperate with administration, faculty and job site personnel
  • Be able to perform job duties without supervision
  • Be able to accept constructive criticism and make improvements
  • Basic sign language and/or experience preferred

 

HOURS:  School year180 days per year; 6.5 hours per week; daily hours (7:30 am to 2:00 pm times)

 

SALARY:  $18.00-$18.20, rate is dependent upon education and/or experience. (Schedule #21-4)
