Hourly Wage:  $13.80 - 16.24/hr - Depending on previous experience as a para in a school

Job Summary:  

Assist the teacher in providing students with the fullest educational opportunity to learn and progress through use of appropriate teaching strategies and materials.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Educational Requirements 
    • Two years of college or 32 credits or 
    • Associates degree or 
    • Meet or exceed cut score on Praxis Exam for the ParaPro Assessment
  • Language acquisition experience required. Bilingual preferred. 
  • Positive public relations skills
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish the major duties listed below

 Major Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Supervise students in both instructional and assessment activities, in and out of the classroom.
  2. Provide instructional reinforcement of lesson plans, under direction of the classroom teacher.
  3. Lead small group and individual discussions, skills practice and review of classwork.
  4. Assist the teacher to accommodate implementation of special services (IEP, 504) when applicable.
  5. Participate in staff meetings, staff projects and professional staff development.
  6. Perform such school-related duties as assigned by the principal.
  7. Support the creation of a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students within the limits of resources provided by the district.
  8. Use instructional materials adopted by the district and employ methods that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  9. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.  Follow prescribed safety regulations.
  10. Assist the teacher to maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  11. Effectively participate in collaboration with team members.
  12. Know and follow district policy and chain of command.
  13. Act ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
