The Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools serves 1,600 students ranging from PreK–12, and is a free, open-enrollment public charter school. Over 97% of our students are Latinx. Our school system consists of Guadalupe Centers High School, Guadalupe Centers Middle School, and Guadalupe Centers Elementary School. Our system grew out of Guadalupe Centers’ educational programming. Guadalupe Centers is the longest continuously operating agency serving the Latinx community in the U.S. since 1919. Summary

The ELD Paraprofessional supports English Learner (EL) students by reinforcing academic and language development under the guidance of certified teachers. This role provides instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional support to ensure EL students can fully access the curriculum and succeed academically. The ELD Paraprofessional works closely with classroom teachers, ELD specialists, and building staff to promote language acquisition, academic growth, and positive school experiences.

 

Reports To: Building Principal & Director ELD

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group instructional support to EL students, reinforcing lessons introduced by certified staff.

  • Support students in developing English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

  • Assist teachers in differentiating instruction and modifying classroom materials for English Learners.

  • Collaborate with ESL teachers and classroom staff to monitor student progress and maintain accurate data and documentation.

  • Provide classroom, hallway, arrival/dismissal, lunch, and recess supervision as assigned.

  • Assist with student assessments, including language proficiency testing, under staff direction.

  • Facilitate the use of educational technology and digital learning platforms that support English language development.

  • Support student social-emotional needs by modeling appropriate behaviors and providing positive reinforcement.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in compliance with FERPA.

  • Participate in professional learning related to English Learners, cultural competency, and instructional best practices.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the instructional program.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish (required).

  • Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students, families, and staff.

  • Understanding of language acquisition and strategies to support English Learners.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to model and reinforce appropriate student behavior.

  • Proficiency with educational technology, including Chromebooks, Google Workspace, and online learning tools.

  • Commitment to serving diverse learners in an urban school setting.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum: 60 college credit hours or successful completion of the Missouri ParaPro Assessment (per DESE requirements).

  • Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, Linguistics, or related field.

  • Experience working with English Learners and/or in an urban school environment preferred.

  • Missouri substitute or paraprofessional certification strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and assisting students in classrooms, hallways, and common areas.

  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds.

  • Must be able to assist students with mobility or physical needs.

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods for documentation and communication.

  • Must be able to navigate all areas of the school campus.
