Position Summary:

As a Summer Special Education Teacher, you will work closely with students with a wide range ofdisabilities to provide individualized instruction and support in accordance with their
Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). You will create a positive, engaging classroom
environment, adapt curriculum to meet students' needs, and help them develop essential
academic, social, and functional skills. You will also collaborate with parents, staff, and
specialists to ensure that each student receives the best possible support throughout the
summer session. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities (Not limited to): 
- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans based on students’ IEPs.
- Provide direct, one-on-one or small group instruction to students in subjects
- Adapt instructional strategies and materials to meet the specific learning needs of each student.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback and adjusting
instructional methods as necessary.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that promotes student
engagement and confidence.
- Collaborate with other professionals (e.g., speech therapists, behavior specialists) to ensure students’ academic and behavioral needs are met.
- Implement behavioral strategies and classroom management techniques to help students
succeed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and performance.
- Provide support to students in non-academic activities, such as recess and lunch as needed.
- Ensure that all students are supported in developing social, emotional, and functional life
skills.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with elementary-aged children is highly preferred.
  • Cultural Competency: Experience with diverse populations and a strong commitment to Wayland’s goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Professionalism: Strong communication skills and the personal characteristics necessary to serve as a positive role model for students.

 

Education and Experience: 

  • Advanced Degree:Master's Degree preferred
  • DESE Licensure: Must hold valid Massachusetts licensure in Moderate or Severe Special Needs
  • SEI Endorsement: Evidence of Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement is mandatory.

 

Work Schedule and Compensation: 

  • Hours: 8:30-12:30
  • Dates: June 29 - July 30
  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 
  • Salary: $65.57/hour
