Overview
Cottonwood Classical Preparatory School (CCPS) is seeking dynamic, passionate teachers for various subject areas listed on our website.  We seek teachers who can appropriately balance high expectations with high levels of student support while working in an International Baccalaureate World School.  CCPS also seeks teachers who either have experience with Paideia methodologies or who are invested in student-owned learning environments that include significant opportunities for seminars, Socratic discussions, and intellectually rich small-group activities.  The curriculum at CCPS is at or above grade level standards across all subject areas and grade levels.  Prospective teaching candidates can learn more about our curriculum on our website.  

Responsibilities

• Teaching:
  • Full-time teachers teach five (5) classes in a seven (7)-period bell schedule
  • Full-time teachers are expected to teach up to two different preparations (ex. Algebra 1 and Geometry or English 8 & English 10).  Teaching three or more preparations sometimes occurs, for additional compensation
  • Grading and feedback is expected regularly, with daily informal feedback and formal grade updates no less frequently than every two weeks
  • Full-time teachers also have a once-per-week "Pack Time" obligation.  This is an ungraded interest group, and teachers serve as "pack leaders" to help students explore co-curricular interests and reflect on the experiences.
• Advising:
  • Full-time teachers have an Advisory that they meet with on a daily basis.  There are up to 21 students in an Advisory, all from the same grade level.
  • Formal Advisory time includes, but is not limited to:
    • Grade checks
    • Facilitating conferences and intervention meetings with parents
    • Parent and teacher communication around Advisory students' best interests
    • Community building activities
    • Under the guidance of others, SEL and career-ready skill instruction and activities
    • Recess and other more unstructured activities
• Collaborating:
  • During planning period, office period, before and after school, Friday in-service obligations, and full-day in-service, full- and part-time CCPS teachers are expected to devote significant time to collaborating with colleagues.  This includes but is not limited to:
    • Senior administrators
    • Instructional coaches
    • Mentors
    • Department colleagues
    • Grade level colleagues
    • Professional Learning Communities
    • Wellness Team
    • Leadership Councils
    • Full staff
    • Other, as assigned and appropriate
  • Teachers are expected to be part of a culture of being in colleagues' classrooms with them during lessons
  • Teachers are expected to engage deeply and critically with collaborative work, to drive better outcomes for students
• Partnering:
  • Teachers are expected to maintain communication with all parents of their Advisory students, and to a reasonable extent, parents of all rostered students
    • Advisory students:  regular emails/newsletters, conferences, intervention meeting facilitation, connecting parents to resources, and more
    • Other rostered students:  emails and phone calls as contextually appropriate and especially if requested by the student's advisor or an administrator
  • Teachers are expected to maintain a proactive, professional presence in the wider community.  This includes attending some community events (two are contractually required, but more is better if possible) and as available, chaperoning dances and supporting student-driven activities.

Qualifications

• Current New Mexico professional teaching license or eligibility to obtain one
• Bachelor's degree in Education and/or field in the subject area of teaching.  Master's degree preferred but not required
• Demonstrated passion for the subject area(s) intended to be taught
• Inquisitive by nature, and views teaching as both an art and a science; something to continually grow in rather than something in which to be perfect
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Technology skills including familiarity with Google applications for email, document creation, etc.
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with myriad stakeholders.
• Familiarity with Albuquerque's local community and education landscape is a plus.

Compensation
$55,000 - $88,000 base pay, depending on teaching license level, degree level, and confirmed years of experience.  Additional stipends for additional responsibilities available upon request and availability.
