The Sharon Public Schools is seeking a 1.0 FTE special education teacher for students in the SOAR Program at Heights Elementary School.  

 

Elementary SOAR (Student Opportunities for Academic Readiness): Students in the SOAR program have their academic content provided in a smaller learning environment using Discrete Trial Training or ABA-based learning with social inclusion within the larger school community. While students typically have an Autism Spectrum Disorder, however this is not the case for all students.  The SOAR Program Description can be found HERE

 

The successful candidate for this position will have experience with students with communication impairments and autism spectrum or related disorders. 

The duties of the special education teacher include but are not limited to:

  • Direct instruction with students based on IEP goals,
  • Development and oversight of Discrete Trial Training (DTT) Programming for students in SOAR classroom,
  • Data collection,
  • Act as case manager/liaison for students on instructional caseload,
  • Develop and implement IEP goals and accommodations,
  • Collaboration/consultation with BCBA, general education teachers as well as related service providers,
  • Communication between home and school,
  • Administer and analyze special education assessments as part of the initial and revaluation eligibility process,
  • Write evaluation reports which include diagnostic impressions and educationally relevant recommendations
  • Facilitate and chair annual review team meetings. 
  • Complete all necessary IEP process paperwork, including quarterly progress reports

Strong written and oral communication skills are required. Experience with DTT and instruction based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) preferred.

 

This is a full-time position and follows the Heights Elementary School Schedule. Salary is based on experience in accordance with the Sharon Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.

 

DESE Licensure required: Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities (All) or Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8). 

Attainment of the DESE Autism Endorsement preferred.
