Summary: The instructional paraprofessional assists the instructor in creating a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
Qualifications/Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Must be neat, responsible, and dependable
- Be sensitive to the needs of students and able to relate well to students and staff
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Essential Functions:
- Assist in facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of students
- Establish a positive and safe learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students
- Provide, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives and ensuring students’ success in school
- Utilize time constructively and effectively
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff information
- Display tolerance and understanding of all children
- Adapt to new situations and react to change productively
- Serve as a role model for children
- Monitor students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments
- Regular onsite attendance and give adequate notice of absences by reporting to proper supervisor

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires prolonged standing and/or sitting
- Requires stooping, bending, lifting, and reaching
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments depending on outside variables with numerous interruptions
- Requires regular attendance and physical presence at the job sites
Terms of Employment: The paraprofessional is assigned to work 7 hours per day as assigned by supervisor while school is in session and students are present. Any other work days will need to receive prior approval from administrator.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education’s policy concerning evaluation of classified personnel.
