Summary Job Description:
Provide support to our Lake County High School students, teachers, families, and administrators to help improve our building wide culture. The primary purpose of the Behavior Paraprofessional is to be proactive and reactive to Tier 1 and 2 behaviors. This position will primarily work with 7th and 8th grade and will have involvement with 9th - 12th grade as needed.
Essential Job Tasks:
Essential job tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Contribute toward a safe environment by ensuring that student conduct is maintained and discipline is enforced fairly and consistently.
- Knowledge of, and ability to implement, de-escalation, intensive behavior intervention, and behavior management techniques.
- Calmly manage emotionally charged situations.
- Monitor and observe student behavior according to approved policies and procedures.
- Develop rapport and interact effectively with students while holding high expectations and supporting students to achieve high results within a calm, safe and supportive environment.
- Interact, collaborate, and communicate with staff and families in a professional manner on consequences, interventions, collaborative problem solving, and restorative approaches.
- Use the LCHS Behavior Flow Chart to determine consequences, interventions, and next steps.
- Document behaviors, interventions, and consequences using PowerSchool.
- Plan and facilitate restorative justice conversations.
- Collaborate with the other Behavior Paraprofessional in the building on tier 1 and 2 behavior interventions and consequences.
- Collaborate with the Principal and Assistant Principal in the building on tier 3 behavior interventions and consequences.
- Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and addressing students’ health, attitude, and learning challenges.
- Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Supervise/chaperone student activities within the school day, as appropriate.
- Serve as a member of the Building Emergency Response Team (BERT) and ensure implementation of the Standard Response Protocol.
- Manage and be present in public spaces to increase overall supervision and student accountability.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Applicants must hold a high school diploma or a GED.
- Applicants must pass all required background checks and fingerprinting.
- Familiarity with education is preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred, and not necessary, for hiring.
- Demonstrated success with conflict resolution, developing strong relationships, and record keeping.
- Comfort with medical issues and behavior interventions - ability to remain calm under pressure
