An ISS Paraprofessional provides instructional assistance to students that are placed in the in-school suspension (ISS) disciplinary setting. A Behavioral Adaptation Support Environment (BASE) Paraprofessional manages student behavior in the BASE classroom while under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting and managing of classroom activities.
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
Have met formal academic assessment, associate’s degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning*
Valid Texas educational aide certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
Ability to work well with children
Ability to communicate effectively
Experience:
Some experience working with children
1. Instructs and models replacement behaviors identified on student's behavior plan.
2. Provides instruction and role-play opportunities for students in replacement behaviors identified in student's behavior plan.
3. Consistently monitors students and uses BASE monitoring sheets to document student behaviors.
4. Maintains effective communication with classroom teachers, staff, administrators and parents that build relationships and lead to greater behavioral outcomes.
