We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Self-Contained Intervention Specialist to join our middle school team. This educator will provide specialized instruction to students with disabilities in grades 6–8 within a self-contained classroom setting. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of diverse learning needs and demonstrate the ability to implement individualized instructional strategies that promote academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver instruction aligned with Ohio Learning Standards and students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans that address a range of academic and functional skill levels.
Create and maintain a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes student independence and engagement.
Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and paraprofessionals to ensure consistent implementation of IEP goals and accommodations.
Facilitate IEP meetings, write IEPs, and complete all required documentation in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations.
Provide direct instruction in reading, mathematics, written language, behavior regulation, and social skills.
Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and support positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS).
Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians to share progress and build strong home-school partnerships.
Qualifications:
Valid Ohio Department of Education Intervention Specialist license (Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Intensive; Middle Childhood preferred).
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Experience working with middle school students in a special education setting, preferably self-contained.
Knowledge of IEP development, progress monitoring, and data-driven instruction.
Familiarity with evidence-based instructional strategies and assistive technology.
Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families.
Preferred Skills:
CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or other de-escalation training.
Knowledge of Ohio’s Operating Standards for the Education of Children with Disabilities.
Strong understanding of trauma-informed practices and social-emotional learning (SEL).
Working Conditions:
Full-time, salaried position with benefits (as determined by district contract).
