  •   PRIMARY FUNCTION:  To perform duties as an instructional assistant as assigned by the teacher and/or principal spending a maximum portion of the day working with In School Suspension students in providing academic instruction.

    PAY GRADE:  Paraprofessional Salary Schedule based Classified Salary Schedule - 188- Grade 2 - 188 Days - $21,108.00 to $32,778.00. Salary Placement will be based on Douglas County Board of Education approved salary schedule and years of verified experience.

    FLSA STATUS: Non- Exempt

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  188 Days (10 Months)

    REPORTS TO:  Principal

    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Degree:  Hold an associate's degree or higher in any subject from a Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) accepted accredited institution; OR
    • Coursework:  Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty {60} semester hours) at a grade of 'C' or higher at a GaPSC accepted accredited institution; OR
    • State Approved Assessment:  Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment.  If eligibility is established through the assessment, the applicant must also hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.  
    Documents accepted to prove "highly qualified status" are:
    • An official college or university transcript to verify completion of two years of college (60 semester hours/90 quarter hours towards a degree program), an Associate's degree or higher degree from an accredited and an aacceptable GaPSC institution.  Transcript copies are not accepted.
    • Or, may show proof of a passing score on the GACE Parapro assessment by providing a copy of their official ETS/Gace Parapro Assessment score report with the application.
    Paraprofessionals employed by the Douglas County School System must be eligible for a valid State of Georgia Paraprofessional certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:    Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities. 

    PROFICIENT SKILLS:      Ability to work with In School Suspension students in academic areas.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    High School Diploma and proof of meeting the definition of “highly qualified” as defined by the No Child Left Behind Act.  Documents accepted to prove “highly qualified status” are:
    1.  An official college or university transcript to verify completion of two years of college (60 semester hours or an Associate’s degree or higher degree) Transcript copies are not accepted
    2. Or, may show proof of a passing score on the Praxis Series Parapro Assessment or GACE Parapro assessment by providing a copy of their official ETS/Gace Parapro Assessment score report with the application
    Paraprofessionals/ISS Facilitators employed by the Douglas County School System must be eligible for a valid State of Georgia Paraprofessional certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:    Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities. 

    PROFICIENT SKILLS:      Communication, instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners, student management.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    15. Manages tasks in allotted time and avoids time wasters in and out of the classroom.
    16. Maintains and organizes work area.
    17. Follows safety and sanitation procedures with students.
    18. Appropriately operates equipment.
    19. Fairly and firmly enforces classroom rules set by teacher.
    20. Speaks in a positive tone of voice to all students and staff and encourages appropriate behavior of students.
    21. Treats others with respect and avoids gossip.
    22. Reacts positively when called upon to assume unassigned duties.
    23. Neat, clean and dresses appropriately.
    24. Accepts constructive criticism.
    25. Performs other duties as assigned by the administrator.
