Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a compassionate, student-centered Special Education Teacher to join our dedicated team. This individual will manage a caseload of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans, ensuring all services are delivered in full compliance with each student’s needs and legal entitlements.
Key Responsibilities
Provide both direct and indirect instructional support tailored to students’ IEPs and 504 Plans within a structured, inclusive learning environment.
Design and communicate clear, measurable learning objectives for all lessons.
Utilize specialized instructional methods to support development in areas such as language, cognition, sensory integration, motor skills, and memory.
Deliver differentiated academic instruction using techniques such as phonics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition to address diverse learning needs.
Foster a positive, respectful classroom environment by reinforcing school-wide behavioral expectations and procedures.
Maintain accurate, detailed records including service logs, lesson plans, and student progress data in accordance with school policy and legal requirements.
Serve as case manager and main point of contact for assigned students; lead IEP meetings and collaborate with families and service providers.
Prepare and submit quarterly progress reports for each student on your caseload.
Actively participate in team meetings and multidisciplinary planning with general education teachers and related service providers.
Partner with parents, administrators, and support staff to develop, implement, and monitor individualized educational programs that support student success.
Support the administration of standardized assessments, ensuring proper accommodations are in place.
Engage in ongoing professional development and curriculum planning to maintain and enhance instructional practices.
Take on additional school-wide responsibilities as assigned (e.g., dismissal duties, document shredding).
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (required)
SEI Endorsement (required)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to assess student needs and design effective interventions
Collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal skills
Experience interpreting assessment data to inform instruction
Knowledge of special education laws, best practices, and effective instructional strategies
Proficiency in developing and implementing IEPs and 504 Plans
Strong classroom management and organizational abilities
Demonstrated commitment to supporting diverse learners
Successful completion of applicable MTEL exams within one year of hire
This position reports to the Head of Special Education and is an annual appointment, subject to yearly performance evaluation.
