You just might be the person we are looking for if you have:

 

Bachelor’s Degree

Valid Texas certificate appropriate for educating students receiving special education

Minimum 3 years experience as special education teacher of students with autism

Ability to work with school and community population

Expertise in programming for students with an autism spectrum disorder

Valid CPI certification preferred (Can be obtained after employment)

 

The mission of this role:

 

Provide leadership and specialized knowledge and expertise for programming and supports for students with autism.

 

What success looks like for this role:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of program requirements and research based best practices in area of specialization.
  • Use data analysis of student performance to set goals and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Assist in the selection and evaluation of appropriate instructional materials and resources that are aligned to curriculum standards and student needs as appropriate.
  • Consult with internal and external stakeholders regarding student needs and services.
  • Interpret and communicate federal, state, and local requirements necessary for program compliance.
  • Serve as a primary contact and resource for programmatic assistance and support.
  • Serve as a resource to campuses by modeling effective teaching strategies, developing appropriate IEPs (Individual Education Plans), and attending staffings as appropriate.
  • Assist in coordinating and implementing extended day/school programs.
  • Facilitate and assist with campus based and district parent training and in-home training.
  • Mentor teachers responsible for educating students in district autism programs in development of instructional strategies and implementation of KISD autism program teaching competencies.
  • Coordinate and monitor student participation in state assessments.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of staff development and training.
  • Provide input to campus administrators responsible for conducting teacher appraisals by identifying the critical attributes required of teachers in successful classrooms for students with disabilities.
  • Communicate regularly with special education instructional officers, campus staff, and parents/guardians.

Workplace operational environment to include:

 

Maintain emotional control under stress.  Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks and other classroom or adaptive equipment.  May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraint; exposure to biological hazards; heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over, daily.  District travel.
