    DESCRIPTION OF THE DISTRICT

    The Brandon School District is a mid-size school district nestled in Northwest Oakland County.  The district has approximately 1,000 students in junior kindergarten-5th grade between the two elementary schools, approximately 550 at the middle school level and approximately 850 at the high school. This small, tight knit community has a strong connection to its schools and is passionate about the education of its youth.  Brandon High School sends 85-90% of its graduates to post-secondary school each year, it was ranked in the 82nd percentile of all schools in the State on the top-to-bottom rankings and it was awarded as a Silver Medal Winner by the US News. 


    POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

    The Brandon School District is seeking a caring and compassionate long term substitute teacher to join our elementary team in a Special Education Resource Room as we continue to look for a full time teacher. This individual will be responsible for supporting students with IEP's until a full-time teacher is placed. An ideal candidate will seek to address issues proactively, will build strong connections with staff and students and will have a clear passion for helping others.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's Degree preferred

    • Possesses (or is able to obtain prior to starting) either a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Michigan Substitute Permit

    • Eligibility to obtain a long term basic substitute permit through the Michigan Department of Education if the assignment is to go beyond 90 days

    • Educational background in Special Education is preferred

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
     

    Ability to commit to the building schedule for the duration of the assignment 
    Ability to communicate and work effectively with students, parents, and District staff
    Competency in classroom management and supervision of students
    Ability to work for the intended time period per the school building schedule
    Proficient reading and writing abilities
    Ability to work effectively with children and take direction
    Pleasant, cooperative and flexible
    A positive attitude to foster the proper atmosphere for a supportive classroom environment            

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

              Responsible for teaching a classroom with varying abilities
              Create an inviting and nurturing classroom that meets the needs of all learners academically, culturally, socially and emotionally
              Responsible for upholding basic rules and procedures
              Ensures the safety of students
              May assist with planning a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students; some lesson plans will be provided
              Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports
              May need to be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day on occasion
              Maintains knowledge of District policies and procedures
              Other duties may be assigned

     

    REPORTS TO:            Director of Student Support Services and School Principal

    WORKDAY/WEEK:      Per Building Schedule, Monday – Friday

             Assignment to last approximately 30-90 days

    STARTING DATE:         ASAP     
     

    COMPENSATION:         $150.00 per day contracted through EduStaff
