  •   Ledyard Public Schools is seeking a Long Term Substitute Middle School Special Education Teacher to work with students in the Resource program beginning in the 2025-2026 school year and anticipated to continue through mid- November, based on the needs of the district. The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience working with a range of learning differences using strategies to support students within the general education setting.
    Qualifications:
    • Connecticut Special Education Certification required (165, 065 or 265)
    • Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals
    • Strong case management skills
    • Experience with developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) designed to promote students' educational, physical, and/or social development
    • Effectively communicate with students and parents
    • Demonstrated ability to write accurate and thorough assessment reports, IEP’s and progress reports
    • Experience with instructional strategies related to literacy and numeracy at the middle school level, as well as, modifying curriculum within the general education setting
    • Knowledge and skills related to progress monitoring student data as it relates to goals/objectives
    • Engage positively with teachers, students and families in the learning process
    • Collaborate with colleagues to improve learning for all students
    • Utilize data to make instructional decisions
    Pay:
    • The daily rate for substitute teachers is $130. Please note for long term substitute positions (40+ days): The daily rate for long term substitute teachers with certification is $278.61 beyond the 40th consecutive day worked in the same assignment.
    Physical Requirements:
    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
    • Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child.
    • Position can require physical interaction with students who have difficulty regulating emotions and controlling behavior.
    • Must occasionally lift, move, or support other staff with physically escorting students.
