About the Position
The Mount Greylock Regional School District seeks a dedicated and flexible Long-Term Substitute Paraprofessional to provide instructional and classroom support during the absence of a permanent staff member at Williamstown Elementary School. This position plays an important role in supporting students’ academic, social, and behavioral success by working collaboratively with teachers, specialists, and administrators.
Intensive Special Needs:
This position may be required to work with a student or students with intensive special needs including students who are consistently in need of: assistance with incontinence issues (toileting/diapering), assistance with lifting (in an out of a wheelchair),
providing assistance with feeding where specialized training is required to prevent choking because of a swallowing disability, or where the student(s) present severe behavioral issues. The Principal can provide additional information and discuss training options as needed during the onboarding process should this role be identified as one that will work with an instensive special needs student.
Responsibilities
•Assist with the arrival, departure, and daily transitions of students.
•Support classroom instruction by working with small groups and individual students.
•Provide academic support, including reading, clarifying assignments, and encouraging task completion.
•Assist with classroom organization, materials preparation, and record-keeping as needed.
•Help implement and monitor behavior plans, providing feedback to teachers and administrators.
•Support students with special needs, including assistance with equipment, mobility, or individual accommodations.
•Promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student confidence and engagement.
Qualifications
•Prior experience working with children, particularly in an educational setting or with students with special needs, preferred.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
•Knowledge of de-escalation strategies, behavior supports, and CPR/First Aid training (preferred).
Compensation
Compensation will be consistent with the paraprofessional substitute rate of pay as outlined by the District. This is a temporary, non-benefited position limited to the coverage period. Currently, per-diem substitute para rates range from $120 to $210 depending on education and DESE certification status.
