Position Title: Low-Incidence Special Education Teacher – Elementary

Reports To: Building Principal and Director of Special Education
Position Type: Certified / Full-Time / 10 Month Contract - Begins 2026-2027 School year

Position Overview:

The Low-Incidence Special Education Teacher provides individualized instruction and support for elementary students with significant cognitive, physical, or multiple disabilities. This role focuses on helping students build academic, communication, social, and daily living skills in a nurturing, structured environment. The teacher works closely with families, general education teachers, and related service providers to promote growth and inclusion for all learners. Low caseload, great support!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction aligned to IEP goals for students with low-incidence disabilities.

  • Develop and implement IEPs in accordance with IDEA and district policies.

  • Adapt curriculum, materials, and classroom activities to meet diverse student needs.

  • Collect and analyze progress data to guide instruction and report student growth.

  • Collaborate with general education staff and related service providers to support inclusive practices.

  • Utilize assistive technology and augmentative communication tools as needed.

  • Supervise and support paraprofessionals in implementing instructional and behavioral plans.

  • Foster a safe, caring, and predictable classroom environment that supports learning and independence.

  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Valid Kansas teaching license with a Low-Incidence (Adaptive) Special Education endorsement (or eligibility)
    • Will consider alternative licensures with experience

  • Knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies for students with significant disabilities

  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching elementary students with low-incidence disabilities

  • Training in assistive technology, AAC, or functional life skills curriculum

Work Environment:

  • Elementary school setting with collaborative team supports

  • Involves regular interaction with students, staff, and families

May require lifting, physical assistance, or adaptive support for students with mobility needs
