The Middle/High School Paraprofessional provides direct support to students with social and emotional disabilities in both academic and specialized settings. This position assists students in developing self-regulation, positive coping skills, and academic engagement while fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment. The paraprofessional works collaboratively with teachers, counselors, and behavior specialists to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide individual and small-group support to students with identified social/emotional needs.
- Assist students in developing emotional regulation strategies and appropriate social interactions.
- Implement and reinforce behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and coping strategies under the guidance of licensed staff.
- Support students’ participation in academic instruction by promoting focus, organization, and task completion.
- Supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, lunch, breaks, and transitions, ensuring a safe and positive environment.
- Model respectful and appropriate communication and behavior at all times.
- Record observational data and provide feedback to the classroom teacher and special education team.
- Assist in crisis de-escalation using approved techniques and maintaining a calm, supportive presence.
- Collaborate with staff to support the emotional well-being and academic success of each student.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all school and district policies and procedures.
- Participate in professional development and team meetings as required.
