Special Educator – Community Classroom
Woodstock Union Middle & High School/Full-Time Position
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Full-Time Special Educator to support middle and high school students with low-incidence disabilities. This educator will provide direct instruction in functional math and literacy, as well as life and vocational skills, to help students develop independence and meaningful community engagement. The ideal candidate will be skilled in leading a team of paraprofessionals and related service providers, coordinating meaningful opportunities within the school and greater community, and advocating for students with a firm belief that all students can succeed.
The successful applicant will be a collaborative and effective communicator with the school community, fostering strong relationships that support student growth. They will embrace equity, inclusion, and diversity and bring flexibility and a sense of humor to their work, creating a positive and supportive learning environment.
About the Role
The Special Educator will:

- Provide direct instruction in functional math, literacy, life skills, and vocational skills to students with low-incidence disabilities.
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that align with students' needs and post-secondary goals.
- Supervise and support a team of paraprofessionals, including oversight of scheduling, staffing assignments, and training.
- Supervise and support a team of related service providers to ensure effective implementation of student programs.
- Coordinate meaningful vocational and life skills opportunities within the school and the greater community, including job placements, community-based instruction, and transition planning.
- Collaborate with families, community partners, and outside agencies to support students' access to resources and services.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment where all students feel valued and empowered.
- Advocate for equitable opportunities for students with disabilities, ensuring access to academic, social, and extracurricular activities.
- Utilize data-driven decision-making to assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, services, and family communication.
- Participate in professional development to stay informed on best practices in special education, transition planning, and community partnerships.

- Hold or be eligible for a Vermont Educator License with an appropriate Special Education endorsement.

- Collaborate with our school’s Center for Community Connections (C3) and their staff to explore and cultivate partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and agencies to support student employment experiences.
