Classroom Paraprofessionals
Position: Classroom Paraprofessional
Program: Southside School Child Care
Immediate Supervisor: Director or Assistant Director
Status: Full Time
Summary: Provide educational and developmental curriculum in order to promote child’s cognitive and intellectual skill development. A Classroom Paraprofessional is an individual who provides support to the Classroom Teacher and children working under the supervision of the Director and guidance of Classroom teacher. Classroom Paraprofessionals provide both instructional and non-instructional support.
Education/ Experience/Requirements:
- Child Development Associates (CDA) Certificate of Proficiency (COP), Associates in Early Childhood or an Associates degree with a minimum of (12) hours in early childhood education or equivalent thereof.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to provide timely and cohesive documentation in designated data management systems.
- Must pass maltreatment, criminal background and FBI check.
- Attend all required training and meetings assigned.
- Willingness to endure exposure to inclement weather.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful conditions. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Must be able to lift twenty (20) pounds from the floor while in a standing position.
- Must be able to reorient from a sitting position on the floor to a standing position without assistance.
Primary Job Function:
- Assist in providing planning and implementation of appropriate early childhood educational experiences with a variety of materials.
- Assist in developing a daily schedule to promote development appropriate activities.
- Assist in developing lesson plans/curriculum in order to give the children the opportunity to participate daily in individual and group activities, which provides the experience for language-reasoning enrichment skills; fine and gross motor activities; creative experiences; and social development.
- Assist in the responsibility for all required documentation and reporting forms on the children.
- Work with parents to promote understanding of growth and development of their child; encourage parents to participate in the classroom and with other activities when appropriate.
- Supervise children’s activities to ensure safety and appropriateness.
- Supervise and direct parents, volunteers, or student interns who may be assigned to the classroom.
- Provide and maintain a neat and organized classroom; assist in the responsibility for the upkeep of all equipment and materials in the classroom.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, open house, or any function as requested, to benefit the child or program.
- Must be able to travel in and out of the area for training including overnight travel when deemed necessary by the Director.
- Must complete a minimum of thirty (15) PDR training hours per day.
- Maintain confidentiality and respond to each family being served with dignity and respect.
- Follow all policies written in the Southside School District Personnel Policy Handbook (located online at Southsideschools.org), Arkansas Minimum Licensing Requirements for Child Care Centers and ECERS/ITERS regulations.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the director.
