    Job Title: Paraprofessional, Non-Instructional 
    Pay Program: Support Staff FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
    Reports to: Building Leader or Designee       Pay Range: CH 5 $16.77 - $19.07   
    Work Year: 174 Days / 8 Hours

    SUMMARY: Operating under the general supervision of the school’s Building Leaders or Designee, the employee will perform a variety of clerical, and logistical duties.  Employee acts as a supportive resource for others inside the district including administrators, staff, and teachers which requires a broad base understanding of the District and specific school operations.  This position is also often a first point of contact for the public, staff, students, and parents entering the school and must work cooperatively to facilitate these interactions. Occasionally this position may assist with instruction and supervision of students.

    Job Responsibility Descriptions
    1. Providing assistance for office and building leadership facilitating general customer service assistance for staff, parents, visitors, vendors, and student questions and concerns.  This role has a focus on the assigned building’s priorities and may be assigned clerical and logistical duties for evolving programming or projects.  Supports the building departments and office by performing various clerical duties, answering and screening phone calls, scheduling and maintaining various department and/or program calendars, relaying messages and greeting visitors.  This position may provide backup assistance to other office personnel and must work cooperatively to ensure department coverage is maintained.
    1. Copying and collating duties are performed in support of cohort and team projects as well as regular ongoing committee work.  This role also copies instructional materials for teachers and other staff as assigned and may oversee the minor maintenance of copy machines i.e. ink and paper replacements and addressing paper jams.   
    Note: Building Specific Assignment:
    1. Assisting with instruction and supervision of students to include monitoring student behaviors and social emotional skills in a variety of school environments including playgrounds, cafeteria, assemblies, group activities, one-on-one tutoring, and many other situations is a continuous responsibility of this position.  Paraprofessional may also be assigned before and/or after school bus stop monitoring duties as well.  Daily interactions with students give the employee an opportunity to provide guidance and impart self-management skills to enhance student(s) behavior(s) toward appropriate responses and choices.  The paraprofessional is often a first-point-of-contact for demonstrating D51 Social Emotional Learning with students and there is an expectation for the person in this role to promote the District’s mission for this topic.
    Note: Building Specific Assignment:
    1. Assisting Building Leaders with their Advisory Groups in clerical, data entry and communication needs.  Employee may complete data entry and other types of reporting assignments working with confidential student data.  The highest level of confidentiality is an expectation of these duties.   Advisory group updates often require monthly or bi-annual reporting and this role may assist with these needs.  Other duties may include assisting with communication outreach efforts to parents, staff, and students.       
    1. As assigned this role provides support in the school library by assisting students and staff members in locating research and free reading materials in print, electronic and multimedia resources.  May perform various duties pertaining to the library automation system such as checking items in and out, re-shelving items and generating overdue notices.  
    1. Participating in staff meetings and/or building level in-service training programs as appropriate. Note: The actual duties of this position may vary based on the current building assignment.
    1. Perform other duties as assigned.
     
     

    EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required*;
    • Preference given for prior school district experience and/or secretarial work experience;
    • Bilingual oral and written skills, English/Spanish, are required;
    • *Acceptable demonstration of education and/or experience is at the sole discretion of the district.

    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
    • Valid Colorado Driver’s License or Colorado identification required;
    • Successful passing of criminal background check required at time of hire;
    • Attend and successfully complete all staff development training as required by state law or as directed by supervisor.

    Community Awareness – Supporting Building leadership requires a basic knowledge of school’s operations, departments and how District services are provided.  This position is responsible for supporting District personnel in understanding policies, procedures, and philosophies and how to foster success for all students regardless of gender, race, or ability.
    Legal Knowledge – Position is responsible for supporting District personnel in understanding and abiding by legal and ethical boundaries as outlined in the Board of Education Policies as well as:
    • Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA 2015),
    • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (1974, 2016),
    • Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA 1998),
    • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, 2004),
    • Title VI of the Civil Rights Act (1964),

    MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
    • Expert knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals;
    • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as scanner, copier, fax machine, etc.
    • Operating knowledge of and experience with software programs for presentations, word processing, spreadsheets,
    • Smartsheet, and online computing platforms including G+ Suite and Office 365 integrated educational packages;
    • Operating knowledge of student tracking software for required within 30 days of hire.
