Paraprofessional Special Education Inclusion

Willett Elementary K-4

 

General education and special education staff work collaboratively to ensure access to the general education curriculum.  Services are delivered in a variety of models including:  push-in, small group, 1:1, and pull-out emphasizing academic skill development including reading, mathematics, written language, expressive/receptive communication, problem-solving and organization.

 

Job Purpose 

Under the direct supervision of certified staff members, assist professional staff with students in the classroom to meet academic and social emotional goals and objectives and implement positive behavioral supports. 

 

Reports to: Building Principal and/or designee

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing academic, social emotional, and behavioral skills according to individual student needs. 
  • Assist with individual, class, and schoolwide positive behavioral supports to support a safe, learning environment. 
  • Work with students individually and in small groups. 
  • Assist professional staff in data collection: academic, behavioral, and adaptive skills
  • Assist students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus transitions, passing time in corridor, self-care including toileting,  and other related noninstructional areas. 
  • Accompany students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision. 
  • Construct, copy and distribute,  and use materials as needed. 
  • Assist teachers with parent contact as requested to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student education. 
  • Participate in IEP process and serve as resource for the student evaluation team as needed.  
  • Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. 
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others. 
  • Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students.  
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work. 
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.  

 

Experience

  • Prior experience working with students with disabilities with learning, communciation, and emotional needs
  • Data collection experience preferred
  • Safety care or CPI training preferred
  • Highly Qualified: 2 years of college credits or equivalent (ParaPro)
