Dover-Sherborn Public Schools seeks an innovative Special Education Coordinator to lead special education at Pine Hill Elementary School and direct our District-Wide Preschool Programming. This role focuses on shaping the vision for special education delivery, optimizing current programs, and designing new frameworks to best serve our students."
Essential Functions and Duties of the Special Education Coordinator:
●Supervises and evaluates all special education and preschool staff.
●Regularly coordinates with building leadership, the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction to provide training and technical assistance to special education teachers, general education teachers, related service providers, school counselors, instructional coaches, and educational assistants in best practices for special education delivery.
●Works in collaboration with the building leaders, Special Education Coordinators, and Director of Student Services in the recruitment, screening, and hiring of all special education-related staff members.
●Coordinates schedules and services provided by school psychologists, special education supervisors, itinerant special education staff and/or social workers.
●Assumes leadership role in due process sessions including mandated mediations and hearings.
●Attends regularly scheduled building based general education, special education, and district leadership meetings to ensure collaboration and consistency with other district educational leaders and initiatives.
●Coordinates and implements departmental policies, procedures, and practices with respect to special education.
●Monitors the student record system related to special education to ensure that appropriate information is kept current in student cumulative record folders as required by law.
●In coordination with building leadership, prepares budget recommendations and oversees management and use of special education grants.
●Attends and participates in related community events, including the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) meetings.
●Works with principals to determine placement of students to maximize efficiencies in service delivery.
●Act as Local Education Agency (LEA) Representative at Evaluation Team and Individual Education Plan (IEP) Team meetings;
●Schedule and chair evaluation meetings(initial and re-evaluation meetings) and provide written notice to assure compliance with special education regulations;
●Assure that any student receiving or entitled to receive special education instruction under IDEA receives a full and comprehensive evaluation;
●Ensure the involvement of parents/guardians in the special education process and provide basic explanations of parental rights, procedural safeguards and responsibilities under IDEA;
●Performs tasks and assumes any additional duties deemed necessary by the Director of Student Services.
Essential Functions and Duties of the Preschool Coordinator:
●Oversees Preschool programming at Dover and Sherborn Elementary Schools and transitions to kindergarten;
●Coordinates with Early Intervention and area pre-schools;
●Responsible for Preschool registration, orientation, and parent engagement;
●Conducts Pre-school home visits;
●Leads Special Education Team meetings and processes;
●Leads community screenings and community preschool events;
●Leads professional development (PD) for special education and preschool staff and collaborates with the Assistant Superintendent and Team to plan preschool PD;
●Supervision and evaluation of Preschool staff and collaboration with site principals;
●Implementation of Early Education and Care (EEC) requirements;
●Works collaboratively with the Director of Student Services to coordinate services and determine budget priorities;
●Leads professional learning related to Preschool needs for district administrators;
●Manages grants related to Preschool
●Other related duties as assigned.
Salary range based on experience: $125,000 -$135,000
This is a 184 school year position, plus 20 additional days
