Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Elementary Special Education Resource Room Teacher to join our team for the 2026-27 school year. The ideal candidate will provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in both resource room and general education settings, helping students make progress toward their academic, behavioral, social, and individualized learning goals. This position requires strong collaboration with general education teachers, special education staff, related service providers, and families to ensure students receive appropriate supports and have meaningful access to the general education curriculum.

Responsibilities

- Provide specialized instruction to students with disabilities individually and in small groups based on their identified needs and IEP goals.

- Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with state and federal requirements and district procedures.

- Conduct and participate in assessments, evaluations, progress monitoring, and data collection to identify student needs and measure progress.

- Collaborate with general education teachers to provide accommodations, modifications, interventions, and instructional strategies that support student success in the general education setting.

- Provide direct instruction and support in academic areas, including reading, writing, and mathematics, based on individual student needs.

- Participate in IEP meetings and communicate student progress, needs, and recommendations with parents, staff, administrators, and related service providers.

- Support the implementation of student behavior plans and positive behavioral interventions, as appropriate.

- Serve as a resource to classroom teachers by assisting with instructional strategies, differentiation, accommodations, and supports for students with disabilities.

- Maintain accurate and complete student records, including IEP documentation, progress reports, assessment data, and other required special education records.

- Establish and maintain effective communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and educational programming.

- Collaborate with special education staff, school psychologists, social workers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and other service providers to coordinate student supports.

- Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that promotes student independence, confidence, and academic growth.

- Participate in professional development and remain current on effective instructional practices, special education requirements, and evidence-based interventions.

- Select and utilize appropriate instructional materials, technology, assessments, and resources to meet individual student needs.

Requirements
- Valid Michigan teaching certification with appropriate endorsements.
- Bachelor's degree with a major in an appropriate special education area.
- Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing methods, and proven strategies for maximizing the educational experience of students with special needs.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Work Schedule
Standard teacher work schedule as set forth in the Teachers' Unit Contract.
