Annapolis, Maryland, United States
Summary
Join a mission-driven team that supports students with special education needs in grades 6–12 through a flexible, community-based approach. As a Special Education Teacher, you’ll work outside the classroom—meeting students in familiar, supportive spaces like libraries, cafés, or local community rooms. Caseloads are intentionally kept small and manageable, and while your core service area includes the listed counties, you may occasionally support students in similar nearby locations. You’ll lead instruction while Community Support Staff (paras) assist students day-to-day across the region.

What You’ll Do
  • Deliver individualized instruction in non-classroom settings tailored to student IEPs
  • Travel to community-based sites such as libraries, Starbucks, or learning centers across counties
  • Collaborate closely with paras to implement instructional and behavioral strategies
  • Monitor progress and lead communication with families, supervisors, and other support team members
  • Maintain IEP documentation and support compliance
  • Create flexible weekly schedules to accommodate caseloads and location logistics
  • Receive mileage reimbursement for additional travel beyond standard commuting radius

Experience You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (transcript from an accredited institution required)
  • MSDE Special Education certification or active pursuit via an alternative prep program
  • Familiarity with Praxis testing requirements (Reading, Writing, Math, and Special Ed Core)
  • Prior experience working with special education students or in alternative learning environments preferred
  • Must be comfortable working independently and traveling to various counties
  • Reliable transportation and strong communication skills essential

Counties Served:
