QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university with Specialization in Special Education
  2. Minimum of five (5) years experience in Special Education
  3. Certified as Administrator of Special Needs

REPORTS TO:   Assistant Superintendent/Deputy Director

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Administrator  of Special Education is a member of the District Leadership Team and is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of special education processes, programs, and curricula to meet the varying learning needs of the students in Northeast Metro Tech
  • This is a role for an individual who is equally an effective manager, strategic thought leader, collaborator, listener, and implementer
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates the delivery of special education services in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations
  • Recruits, screens, and recommends staff members for the various positions within the Special Education Department
  • Collaborates with general education teachers, special education teachers, related service providers, and consulting staff to develop collaborative and inclusive programs that serve all children
  • Plans ongoing professional development in conjunction with the Leadership Team
  • Coordinates all activities related to DESE oversight including Tiered Focused Monitoring, SSP Indicators, and Problem Resolution Services (PRS)
  • Oversee the scheduling of team meetings for Special Education Students at Northeast and be available to provide input when needed as part of the team. Discuss recommendations with assigned liaison.
  • Coordinate student services within the Special Education Department as they relate to the facilitation of a student’s academic and career technical  training as mandated on an IEP.
  • Assign Liaison services to Special Education staff and coordinate semi-annual progress reports.
  • Conduct Special Education Staff meetings on a regular basis and develop subcommittees to study areas of concern and implement programs beneficial to staff development and student curriculum provisions.
  • Complete the teacher  evaluation process as mandated by the principal’s office and oversee the paraprofessional evaluation process.
  • Develop scheduling for paraprofessionals in academic, career technical and related areas.
  • Oversee tutorial services for Special Education students outside of the school setting.
  • Work with the Parent Advisory Council to develop programs that are relevant to the Special Education population at Northeast.
  • Oversee the scheduling of speech/language services.
  • Oversee the development and management of Individualized Education Programs (IEP’s)
  • Oversee occupational and physical therapy for students
  • Schedule special transportation for students
  • Conduct all Intake Meetings for incoming Grade 9 and other newly entering Special Education Students.
  • Chair and organize all three year re-evaluations
  • Conduct all initial evaluations and manifestation determination hearings
  • Oversee the responsibilities of the reading teacher and reading services
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent-Director or designee

EVALUATION:

Evaluated in accordance with the Administrators' Contract 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. Ten month position 202 days
