Role Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Education Instructor to join our team. The candidate will have a strong background in special education and a passion for creating an inclusive learning environment that meets the unique needs of participants with diverse abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Collaborate with support services staff and evaluate participants' individualized education plans, ensuring that academic and vocational goals are aligned with their needs.
  • Curriculum Adaptation: Modify curriculum materials and lesson plans to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, providing differentiated instruction as necessary.
  • Instructional Delivery: Deliver engaging and inclusive lessons that cater to participants with special learning needs, fostering their growth in academic and life skills.
  • Accommodations and Support: Provide accommodations and support to participants during assessments, tests, and assignments to ensure equal access to education.
  • Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess participants' progress and adjust teaching strategies to meet their evolving needs and goals.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with regular education instructors, support staff, and counselors to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
  • Behavior Management: Implement positive behavior intervention strategies and techniques to address challenging behaviors and promote a positive classroom environment.
  • Communication: Maintain open communication with participants, support services staff, families, and caregivers to ensure a holistic approach to participant success.
  • Professional Development: Stay updated on best practices in special education, attend relevant workshops, and collaborate with colleagues to enhance teaching methodologies.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of participants' academic progress, IEP goals, and interventions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Special Education certification/Students With Disabilities license required.
  • New York State Teaching Certification (grades 7-12) required (Math or Reading Language Arts preferred)
  • Minimum of two years of experience teaching individuals with special needs.
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and accommodations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and a commitment to promoting inclusion and diversity.
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies and educational technology.

Salary: $64,000 - $70,000 annually
