  •   Qualifications:
    • Hold a current Illinois Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) endorsed as a Paraprofessional Educator;
    • Two years (or 60 semester hours) of post-secondary study preferred;
    • Background in Special Education preferred;
    • Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred.

    Reports to: Assistant Principal for Instruction

    Function: The Paraprofessional helps the classroom teacher provide instruction, serves as a tutor when needed, and helps establish a learning environment by working with students on specific activities and performing tasks that aid the teacher.

    Duties:
    • Maintain professional relationship with staff and students.
    • Supervise students in non-instruction activities. Reinforce learning in small groups.
    • Conduct teacher-prepared lessons with small groups.
    • Assist in educational demonstration.
    • Establish positive working relationship with students.
    • Carry out instructional activities as planned by the teacher.
    • Read materials and tests to students, as needed.
    • Assist students with make-up work, when necessary.
    • Implement behavior management plan (observe, record, chart strategies using the same emphasis and techniques as the teacher).
    • Assist teacher with crises and behavior management.
    • Provide feedback and reinforcement to students on their performance consistent with teacher's behavior management plan.
    • Assist the teacher in classroom behavior management as designated by the teacher.
    • Carry out teacher's plans for the student.
    • Under the direction of the supervisory teacher, become aware of each student's unique learning style.
    • Under the direction of the supervisory teacher, become familiar with each student's physical and psychological report and social history.
    • Manage class material inventory.
    • Set up and store instructional materials.
    • Create/prepare instructional materials.
    • Maintain audio-visual equipment.

    Terms of Employment: 
    • Full-time, ten-month work year (180 days of school including student attendance days, staff institutes, and parent/teacher conference days)
    • Starting wage is $20.21-$22.23/hour based on education and verified experience

    • 55-minute paid lunch break (45 minutes on Wednesdays)
