JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE Paraprofessional (Part-time) – Classroom

REPORTS TO: Assigned Classroom Teacher and/or Administration

NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB: To promote the achievement of students’ educational goals and learning objectives by providing supplemental services under the direction of the classroom teacher and to assist in non-teaching duties in such a manner as to enhance the total school program.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum of a High School Diploma.

2. Evidence of successful experience working with children.

3. Evidence of the ability to work effectively with people in a group.

4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

5. Required criminal history background check, proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status, and required Mantoux test.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position. Salary will be $25 per hour with a maximum of 29.5 hours per week. Schedule follows the School Calendar. No Benefits.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists the classroom teacher in the delivery of an effective instructional program.

2. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher.

3. Assists the classroom teacher in maintaining student discipline/good order.

4. Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.

5. Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.

6. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work as assigned by the teacher.

7. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.

8. Helps the teacher to plan and maintain bulletin board and other classroom learning displays.

9. Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.

10. Assists in administering tests and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher.

11. Performs clerical duties related to the instructional program including attendance reports, collection of money, and return of notices to home.

12. Assists students with their clothing, snack time routine, and toileting needs.

13. Participates in in-service training as assigned, including Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).

14. Performs any other tasks as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of the job will be evaluated annually by an administrator.
