POSITION SUMMARY
The BART Special Education Teacher is a full-time, school-year position reporting to the Special Education Coordinator. In this role, you will manage a caseload of students and serve as their primary advocate, ensuring they have full access to our curriculum. You’ll work closely with grade-level teams and paraprofessionals to deliver Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) and provide the support students need to succeed in an inclusive classroom. Teachers are typically assigned to specific grade levels to ensure consistency for both students and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Write clear, thorough IEPs that meet all state and federal requirements.
Co-facilitate IEP team meetings with Special Education Coordinator for annual reviews, initial eligibility, and re-evaluations.
Make sure IEPs are being implemented consistently in all settings.
Regularly communicate with teachers, families, and outside providers.
Manage a caseload of students and help resolve any academic or behavioral issues.
Collect data and write progress reports to keep families informed of student growth.
Work with general education teachers to modify curriculum and adapt instructional materials without compromising academic rigor.
Provide direct support to students within the general education classroom (inclusion) and in small group settings (pull-out).
Coordinate with and provide guidance to Instructional Support Specialists.
Perform educational observations and write educational assessments of student performance in their academic program at BART.
Keep student records and paperwork organized, accurate, and submitted on time.
Help students use assistive technology and develop better self-advocacy skills.
Build strong, positive relationships with parents through regular home-school communication.
