Special Education Teacher

Title: Special Education Teacher

Work Site: Deming Public Schools, 1750 Pear Street SW, Deming NM 88030

Duties:

- Teach 6th grade special education students subject matter and life skills that will contribute to their development.

- Participate in IEP meetings, collaborate with IEP team members, prepare IEP paperwork, deliver instruction, and document student progress.

- Plan a program of student success that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.

- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.

- Guide students toward the achievement of curriculum goals, and in congruency with those goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate said objectives to students.

- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports.

- Diagnose the instructional needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.

- Support parents by providing resources to further the health and education of their child.

- Collaborate with therapists and government agencies that are involved in the student’s life.

Requirements: Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree in any field and New Mexico Special Education Teaching License or New Mexico Special Education Alternative License.
