Job Responsibilities
Instruction & Service Delivery
Provide specially designed instruction in inclusion, pull-out, and self-contained settings aligned to students’ IEP goals and Rhode Island Core Standards
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) in compliance with IDEA and RIDE regulations
Use evidence-based instructional strategies and assistive technology to differentiate instruction for students with mild to significant disabilities
Monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments
Maintain accurate and timely special education compliance documentation
Collaboration & Compliance
Co-teach and collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and paraprofessionals
Support students in the least restrictive environment (LRE)
Participate in:
IEP meetings, Eligibility/staffing meetings, Three-year re-evaluations, Ensure all documentation meets Rhode Island Special Education Regulations, Serve as the state-mandated special education provider on IEPs
Family & Professional Engagement
Maintain regular and proactive communication with families to strengthen home–school partnerships
Support students’ academic and social-emotional development
Engage in ongoing professional learning, including Structured Literacy training aligned with Rhode Island’s Right to Read Act
Participate in SouthSide’s Special Education Advisory Committee meetings
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field from an accredited institution
Valid Rhode Island Special Education Teaching Certification in one of the following:
Early Childhood Special Education (PreK–2)
Elementary Special Education (Grades 1–6)
Demonstrated knowledge of:
IDEA federal statutes
Rhode Island Special Education Regulations (R.I. Gen. Laws Chapter 16-24 and 200-RICR-20-05-1)
Strong:

Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English)
Experience supporting multilingual learners in special education settings
