Position: Special Education Teacher (Mod/Severe)

Position Details: This position will be working with elementary grades 2-4.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:    

  • Ability to build good relationships with children, parents, Teachers and Social Workers
  • Ability to work 1:1 or in small groups with students
  • Ability to work well with children from different backgrounds who have different abilities
  • Well-organized and self-driven to devise and adopt new techniques for teaching and keeping the student(s) on task
  • Ability to manage challenging behavior
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Compassionate, kind and patient with kids
  • Excellent leader and mentor for students
  • Strong attention to detail and an inquisitive mind to understand each individual student
  • Ability to assist students in meeting their academic goals as set forth in the IEP.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Must have a strong desire to work with a wide array of student (age, race, ethnicity, etc).
  • Be highly flexible and agile (we are living and working in a very dynamic time right now).
  • Be highly collaborative, team-oriented and customer service driven.

Licensing/Credential and/or Education Requirements:  

  • Master's degree in the field of Special Education preferred.
  • Either certified in mild to moderate special education or moderate to severe.

Physical Requirements:         

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time.
  • Additionally, physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 25 pounds. Stooping/crouching, reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision.
