Position: Special Education Teacher (Mod/Severe)
Position Details: This position will be working with elementary grades 2-4.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Ability to build good relationships with children, parents, Teachers and Social Workers
- Ability to work 1:1 or in small groups with students
- Ability to work well with children from different backgrounds who have different abilities
- Well-organized and self-driven to devise and adopt new techniques for teaching and keeping the student(s) on task
- Ability to manage challenging behavior
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Compassionate, kind and patient with kids
- Excellent leader and mentor for students
- Strong attention to detail and an inquisitive mind to understand each individual student
- Ability to assist students in meeting their academic goals as set forth in the IEP.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Must have a strong desire to work with a wide array of student (age, race, ethnicity, etc).
- Be highly flexible and agile (we are living and working in a very dynamic time right now).
- Be highly collaborative, team-oriented and customer service driven.
Licensing/Credential and/or Education Requirements:
- Master's degree in the field of Special Education preferred.
- Either certified in mild to moderate special education or moderate to severe.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time.
- Additionally, physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 25 pounds. Stooping/crouching, reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision.
