SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
This position is responsible for planning and implementing effective individualized instruction; including behavioral, social, and life skills as well as academic standards for students with disabilities. There is an emphasis on those who demonstrate needs related to developmental disabilities, including students on the Autism spectrum. This position is also responsible for program success through direction of assigned para(s), to develop or modify curricula, IEP implementation and maintenance, and effective communications with parents, students, peer staff, and administrators.

QUALIFICATIONS:
●Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
●Eligibility for VT teaching certification with a special education teaching license preferred (If the candidate chosen does not possess special education certification, they must be willing to obtain their special education certification within two years of hire date.).
●Experience working with students with moderate to severe developmental disabilities, including students on the Autism spectrum.

PREFERRED:
●Experience in writing individualized education programs (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans.
●Knowledge of evidence-based instructional approaches in providing specialized instruction to students with moderate to severe developmental disabilities.
●Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, district policies, and procedures surrounding the evaluation of students with disabilities and the provision of special education services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
●Develop modified instructional resources when needed and provide specialized instruction in academics, life skills and social/emotional/behavioral skills using specialized teaching methods like Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and discrete trial instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
●Develop and execute individual education programs (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans for each student assigned to you.
●Facilitate the evaluation process for students suspected of having a disability under Child Find responsibilities.
●Facilitate the re-evaluation process for students assigned to you as required under state and federal law.
●Regularly progress monitor each student’s progress towards their IEP goals and benchmarks as outlined in each student’s IEP.
●Complete training and use, when necessary, Crisis Prevention Techniques (CPI).
●Use individualized reinforcement techniques for each student assigned to you to help students develop essential social skills, emotional regulation and positive behaviors.
●Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and an optimal learning environment-utilizing effective and evidence-based approaches to meet the unique needs of students with moderate to severe developmental disorders, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
●Direct paraprofessionals for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
●Collaborate with parents, general education teachers, school psychologists, related service providers and other relevant staff members and/or outside agencies to ensure a cohesive support system for individual students.
●Maintain accurate and complete records as required by local, state and federal policy and law.
●Other duties as assigned.
