Position Objective:
The Special Education Teacher will design, deliver, and assess individualized and small-group instruction aligned with MA Curriculum Frameworks and student IEP goals to support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of learners with disabilities. This position exists to create a structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where every student can achieve meaningful growth and independence. The Special Education Teacher will collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, families, and the broader school community to ensure access to the curriculum, promote student success, and uphold district policies, and professional standards.

Responsibilities:
Deliver high-quality, individualized, and small-group instruction aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and student IEP goals, including feedback and grading
Develop, write, and maintain compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring goals, accommodations, and services are aligned with student needs and state/federal regulations
Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and support staff to differentiate curriculum, instruction, and assessments to meet diverse student needs.
Stay current with curriculum content, evidence-based instructional strategies, and special education best practices
Effectively plan and assess curriculum and instruction to promote measurable student growth
Support students’ understanding of academic, social, and behavioral expectations, adjusting instruction, materials, and assessments as needed
Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment that promotes student independence and engagement
Provide effective instruction by setting clear learning goals, using appropriate instructional and questioning techniques, and monitoring student progress.
Incorporate innovative approaches, assistive technology, and specialized instructional strategies to increase student learning, communication, and confidence
Promote high standards and expectations for all students, fostering independence and self-advocacy skills
Responsible for the promotion of equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning, including, implementing specific strategies for students with moderate to severe disabilities
Responsible for the creation and implementation of differentiated curricula encompassing core content areas and life skills
Demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and appreciation of diversity, ensuring that all students—including those with disabilities and English Learners—have equitable access to opportunities

Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the principal or district administration

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
Required certification in Massachusetts DESE license in Moderate Disabilities
SEI Endorsement
Candidates who are licensed in another state will be considered if they qualify for the temporary license from DESE (must possess the equivalent license from another state and must have documented proof of working under that license for at least three complete school years). Candidates will need to apply for and pay for the DESE license as a condition of employment.
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:
Three (3) Years Teaching Experience
Demonstrated success in designing and implementing individualized instruction aligned with the MA Curriculum Frameworks and student IEP goals
Experience differentiating curriculum and instructional strategies to meet a wide range of learning, behavioral, and communication needs
Knowledge of inclusive practices, specialized interventions, and evidence-based strategies to support students with disabilities
Familiarity with data collection, progress monitoring, and the use of assessment to drive instructional decision-making
Strong skills in developing and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and positive behavior supports
Proficiency with assistive technology, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems, and digital learning tools
Effective collaboration and communication skills for working with students, families, general education teachers, and related service providers
Commitment to fostering independence, inclusion, and equitable opportunities for students with disabilities
Dedication to continuous professional growth and reflective practice in the field of special education


Salary & Terms of Employment: In accordance with the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School Collective Bargaining Agreement. Employment is contingent upon job performance, program needs, and funding. Salary Range: $51,273 - $100,238
