Special Education Teacher Job Description
Title: Teacher
Qualifications: As determined by the Arkansas Department of Education
Reports to: Principal
Supervises: Paraprofessionals and volunteers
Start Date:August 2023
General Job Responsibilities
Demonstrate knowledge of content, pedagogy, resources, and students
Set instructional outcomes based on Arkansas standards
Design coherent instruction (including lesson plans) and student assessments
Create an environment of respect and rapport
Establish a culture for learning
Manage classroom procedures and student behavior
Organize the physical space of the learning environment
Use questioning and discussion techniques
Engage students in learning
Use assessment in instruction
Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness
Reflect on teaching
Maintain accurate records
Communicate with Students and families
Participate in a professional learning community
Grow and develop professionally
Show professionalism
Other duties as assigned
Ensure and plan for student success based on individual student needs in the school setting.
Knowledge of student informed data used to develop individual learning goals and assess student progress towards those goals
Participate in the IEP process and completion of Due Process Paperwork
Knowledge and use of current best practices based on prescribed services by the IEP
Collaborate effectively and efficiently with Principals, Counselors, Teachers, and Parents
Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups or one-on-one
Work with students on an individual basis to overcome specific learning challenges and prepare person(s) for living independently after graduation
Maintain a positive environment for learning
