Job Title: Special Education Teacher & Case Manager (Grades 5-8)

Overview:
The York School Department is seeking a highly organized and student-centered Special Educator to serve as a Teacher and Case Manager within our middle school program. This role is designed for a professional who excels at balancing high-level instructional practices with the rigorous legal and administrative requirements of the Maine Unified Special Education Regulations (MUSER).

Key Responsibilities:

Case Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for families and service providers; facilitate IEP meetings, ensure 100% compliance with state and federal timelines, and maintain accurate, data-driven student records.

Instructional Leadership: Design and implement specialized instruction in core academic areas, tailored to the individual goals and neurodiverse profiles of students in the 5th–8th grade cohort.

Collaborative Consultation: Act as a bridge between special education and general education departments, ensuring that accommodations and modifications are implemented with fidelity across all learning environments.

Behavioral Support: Utilize trauma-informed practices and de-escalation strategies (Safety Care) to support students with social-emotional and executive functioning challenges.

Data Systems: Regularly collect and analyze progress monitoring data to drive instructional pivots and report on IEP goal mastery.

Qualifications:

Maine Department of Education Teacher Certification (282).

Demonstrated expertise in the IEP process and MUSER compliance.

Strong communication skills, with an ability to navigate complex clinical profiles and foster collaborative relationships with parents and community providers.

Commitment to the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) and the inclusion of students in the greater school community.
