Description:

High school Special Education teaching position, 9th – 12th grades

 

Job Summary:

Middle Park High School is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and passionate Special Education teacher to join our team. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to;

  • Help to develop and provide an exemplary special education program to high school students and establish a school wide environment that fosters learning and healthy development

  • Serve on a school-wide team: work with administration, therapists, and the classroom staff to facilitate a school program that allows students to meet IEP goals and developmental milestones.

  • Teach high school students the necessary skills that will provide a solid foundation for an active, positive, healthy, and independent adulthood. This includes promoting the development of positive behaviors/self-regulation, functional academic skills, life skills, and social skills, increasing the levels of independence and emotional well-being within each student.

  • Be supportive of and maintain positive relationships with all parents, care providers, students, other staff members, administrative staff, and community members.

  • Write, develop, edit and implement IEPs, complete and edit Progress Reports, develop and/or complete assessments and other documents as assigned. Coordinate with Special Service Providers to ensure all parts of documents are complete. All completed IEP documents must be turned into the SPED Director for review, feedback, and additional edits before finalizing.

  • Assign tasks to paraprofessionals and organize classroom responsibilities in a proactive, respectful, and supportive manner; encourage feedback and ideas from all staff.

  • When teaching a resource class, develop effective classroom management and organizational systems when needed and ensure maintenance of these systems

  • Ensure progress monitoring is regularly completed on student IEP goals.

  • Administer a variety of individualized formal and informal diagnostic special education and literacy tests (including pre/post tests)

 

In addition, a qualified candidate should:

  • Possess knowledge of current pedagogy

  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students

  • Establish and communicate clear outcomes for all lessons, classwork, and projects.

  • Support the program of study, using a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and technology

  • Serve as a model for the district’s mission, vision, and goals

  • Analyze and use appropriate data to guide instruction and develop assessments 

 

Qualifications:

Appropriate Colorado teaching license with a special education endorsement. Effective communication and interpersonal skills as well as effective time management and organizational skills are necessary. 

 

Working Environment:

Middle Park High School is located in Granby, Colorado, 90 miles NW of Denver and 20 miles from the Winter Park Ski area. School is in session Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. following a 4 X 4 block schedule.  MPHS has approximately 400 students in grades 9-12 and serves the communities of Winter Park, Fraser, Tabernash, Granby, Grand Lake, Hot Sulphur Springs, and beyond.
