Special Education Teacher at Ruidoso High School
|

Position Summary:
|
Ruidoso High School is seeking a qualified and dedicated Special Education Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The successful candidate will provide specialized instruction, ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations, and maintain high academic and behavioral expectations for students with disabilities. This position requires strong instructional leadership, sound judgment, collaboration, and the ability to manage casework responsibilities with accuracy and professionalism.

Qualifications:
|
- Valid New Mexico Public Education Department Special Education Teaching License or eligibility for licensure
- Additional secondary subject area endorsements preferred
- Successful experience teaching high school students preferred
- Knowledge and implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS)
- Experience working with students with emotional, behavioral, and/or learning disabilities
- CPI certification preferred (training available through the district)
- Demonstrated understanding of inclusive practices
- Experience supporting and collaborating with families
- Proficiency with instructional and educational technology
- Strong reading, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented school environment

Responsibilities:
|
- Provide specialized instruction to high school students with disabilities
- Serve as case manager for assigned students
- Develop, write, and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Develop, write, and implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as needed
- Conduct IEP meetings and maintain accurate, compliant documentation
- Monitor student progress and use data to adjust instruction
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and accommodations
- Communicate consistently and professionally with parents and guardians
- Maintain organized and timely compliance with all state and federal requirements
- Support a structured, safe, and academically focused classroom environment
- Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements
|
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods while preparing lessons and completing documentation
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to assist students with mobility and physical needs, as required
- Ability to physically intervene consistent with CPI training when necessary to ensure student and staff safety
- Adequate vision, hearing, and speaking ability to supervise students and communicate effectively
- Ability to operate standard classroom technology and office equipment
