FAIRVIEW SCHOOL DISTRICT – POSITION DESCRIPTION

Anticipated Vacancy 

Pending Board Approval

Permanent Position: 2026-2027

 

LOCATION: Fairview Elementary School

POSITION TITLE: Special Education Teacher-Autistic Support (2) 

REPORTS TO: Elementary School Principal/Director of Special Education

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree
  2. Pennsylvania certification: In Special Education (N-12) or (K-8)
  3. Working knowledge of assistive technology and computer applications related to student outcomes
  4. Proficiency in behavior management and motivational strategies
  5. Experience with students with autism, learning, and emotional support needs

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Track, schedule, write and implement special education student Individual Education Plans (IEPs) according to PDE regulations reflecting Pennsylvania state standards
  2. Track, schedule and write Evaluation Reports for special education students according to PDE regulations
  3. Facilitate IEP team meetings.
  4. Demonstrate a variety of teaching methods and techniques that motivate students to perform at their optimum ability level
  5. Stay up-to-date with regular education initiatives
  6. Work jointly with fellow Special Education teachers to create a seamless transition for students (academically and socially).
  7. Display skill in working with regular education teachers in the area of differentiated instruction so that special education needs can be addressed in this environment
  8. Partner with general education staff to provide needed adaptations and/or accommodations to the general education curriculum
  9. Maintain frequent, positive written and verbal contacts with parents, teachers and administrators regarding program issues and student progress
  10. Participate in school-wide committees fostering school safety and character development
  11. Participate in professional organizations and professional staff development activities to remain current and to ensure continued growth in the field of special education
  12. Demonstrate appropriate use of classroom management techniques
  13. Communicate sound behavior management strategies to regular education teachers and parents via in-services, open house, individual meetings, and printed material
  14. Work cooperatively with all special education and regular education staff and paraprofessionals to provide quality programming for our special education students addressing individual needs in all learning environments
  15. Adhere to all district policies and procedures, maintaining professionalism at all times
  16. Obtain and maintain Handle with Care training
  17. Participate in monthly Clinical Support Team (CST) Meetings

EVALUATION: Annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation and the F.E.A.contract.
