Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to provide instruction and implement curriculum aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This role supports children and adolescents with diverse exceptionalities, ensuring their academic, social, and emotional development in a structured and supportive learning environment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instruction and curriculum that aligns with each student’s IEP goals and accommodations.

  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the varying needs and learning styles of students.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including parents, therapists, and other educators, to monitor progress and adjust plans as needed.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of student performance, IEP implementation, and required reports.

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes student growth and independence.

  • Participate in professional development and required annual trainings, including CPI, BLS, First Aid, and Education Day.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field qualifying for work with children and adolescents (required)

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years teaching experience at the elementary or secondary level, preferably with students with exceptionalities

  • Preferred fluency in learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, and assessment

  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered

Licensure/Certification:

  • Valid Maryland teaching certificate in special education appropriate to the assignment (conditional certificates accepted)

  • Current BLS (CPR) certification in compliance with policy

  • Current First Aid training

  • Valid driver’s license and driving record in compliance with Meritus Vehicle Management Use and Control policy

    • No moving violations in the past three years preferred

    • Certified copy of driving record required annually on date of birth

    • Signed acknowledgment of “Attestation A” required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining certification requirements

  • Ability to foster a positive and productive learning environment for students with diverse needs
