Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction (ACAGJ), Grand Junction, CO

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To: Dean of Student Services

Work days: Monday-Friday, school and professional development days

Compensation Range: $50,000 - 75,000 annually depending on degrees and years of experience

Start Date: August 2025


Position Summary

At Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction, Special Education teachers create their own lessons within the framework set by our content-rich curriculum in collaboration with colleagues and in partnership with Hillsdale College's Barney Charter School Initiative. Teachers are dedicated to mastering the key elements of their instruction and to the intellectual and moral betterment of their students. Ascent Classical Academy of Charter Schools teachers take seriously their own moral and intellectual improvement as part of a hard-working, supportive, and excellence-driven culture.

Special Education teachers should have experience and/or training to work with gifted and talented students and students with various learning disabilities. Teachers should be thorough with attention to detail and timeliness. The special education teacher will work alongside the Dean of Student Services, fellow special education teachers, and paraprofessionals to meet IEP plan goals, track content area minutes, hold annual meetings and write individualized education plans. Candidates will foster professional relationships with faculty and staff, seek collaborative relationships with parents, and mentor students in the pursuit of their own flourishing. Teachers are expected to model moral character in line with the school's core virtues and the pursuit of the Good, True, and Beautiful.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Current license in Special Education
  • Strong background in content areas; willingness to receive specific training
  • Conviction in the values of a rigorous liberal arts education
  • Loyalty to Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc.'s (ACACS) mission and vision
  • Commitment to model moral character in line with the school's core virtues
  • Adherence to all ACACS policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and all applicable school and board policies
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
  • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations.
  • Willingness to perform other related duties as necessary

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height by bending or leaning in order to teach each child
