POSITION:                         

SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER/LEARNING SPECIALIST

 

Hardy and Brackett Elementary Schools

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's Degree in Special Education Preferred
  2. Two or more years successful teaching experience in Special Education
  3. Massachusetts Certification in Special Education (Moderate/Severe)

 

REPORTS TO:         

 

Special Education Coordinator & Building Principals

 

JOB GOAL:

Responsible for planning instruction and/or curricula adaptations for included special needs students which allow students to meet high standards and success in typical settings.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide direct instruction and impletment specially designed instruciton to eligible students 
  2. Plan and modify instruction as approriate
  3. Consult with general education classroom teachers and specialists
  4. Monitor student progress in general education classrooms
  5. Develop IEP, determine goals and objectives in concern with the Team
  6. Prepare progress progress reports
  7. Administer re-evlaution testing and support tri-annual progress monitoring
  8. Maintain contact with families and providers
  9. Attend building Learning Team as requested
  10. Perform other tasks as assigned by building Principal/Special Education

Full time, 183-day, School Year Position

Salary and Benefits are consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Arlington School Committee and the Arlington Education Association.  

 

The Salary Schedule is on our website.  Salary placement is based on Education and Experience. 

 

Arlington has a well-established new teacher induction program with mentoring throughout the school year. The first official work day in the 2026-2027 school year will be August 31, 2026. However, new staff are required to attend several days of orientation and training during the last two weeks of August.
