This position is subject to the North Adams Teacher Association contract. Drury High School is seeking a compassionate and innovative Special Education Teacher to join our dedicated team. This teacher will provide specialized instruction in a sub-separate program for students with autism and students with moderate to severe disabilities. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, empathy, and strong collaboration skills to support students in reaching their academic, social, and functional goals.
Responsibilities
Assists the Special Education Coordinator to help develop student IEPs. Implements individualized education plans (IEPs) aligned with student strengths, needs, and goals. Provides engaging, differentiated instruction tailored to diverse learning styles and levels of ability, including non-verbal students. Incorporates evidence-based strategies, assistive technology, and alternative communication systems to promote student learning and independence. Fosters a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that prioritizes respect, belonging, and
growth. Collaborates closely with paraprofessionals/teaching assistants to ensure effective instructional support, classroom management, and consistent student care. Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team, including general education teachers, related service
providers, families, and administrators. Collects and analyzes student data to monitor progress and adjusts instruction and interventions as needed. Supports students’ development of social, communication, and daily living skills through individualized and group instruction. Participates in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and team collaboration sessions.
