Job Title: Special Education Teacher, full time substitute starting December 22, 2025 for approximately 12 weeks.

Reports to: Director of Student Services


Purpose:
Consistent with the Jamestown School Department’s vision and mission, the special education teacher is to work in partnership with parents, students, educators, and external agencies to promote student achievement. The special education teacher also works to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students and to assist students in succeeding academically, socially and emotionally. The special education teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other needed supports.


Responsibilities:
1.Adheres to the policies of the Jamestown School Department.
2.Adheres to all District, Federal and State policies, procedures and regulations for IDEA & ADA and completion of all relevant paperwork.
3.Communicates high and clear expectations.
4.Applies current research-based best instructional practices and strategies to help students access the curriculum.
5.Provide direct instruction in ELA, math, social-emotional and behavioral development based on students’ IEP goals for identified students (Grade levels as assigned by Director of Student Services and Principal.)
6.Provide each student on case load with a high quality rigorous instruction aligned to the Common Core and National Standards in accordance with each student’s IEP.
7.Actively participate in all required referral, eligibility and IEP team meetings for all new referrals to special education and students on your case load.
8.Provide instruction using a Multi-Sensory reading program and/or established researched-based program to identified students.
9.Actively participate and contribute as a member of the Response to Intervention Team.
10.Assist general education staff with the implementation of accommodations and/or interventions.
11.Ability to establish effective relationships with students.
12.Create and implement or assist classroom teachers in implementing behavior plans in collaboration with other service providers for targeted students.
13.Collect, record and analyze academic and behavioral data to document progress and to make educational decisions
14.To implement Jamestown’s grade level curricula and assessments with fidelity setting high standards and expectations for the academic growth of every student.
15.Provide frequent feedback to the regular education teacher and other staff members on best practices and individualized instruction for identified students.
16.Consult with general and special education staff on effective modifications and accommodations for identified students.
17.Complete written progress reports to be presented to teachers, parents and other staff members as needed.
18.To effectively communicate with and establish positive relationships with parents, community and with other staff members.
19.Complete and maintain accurate and up to date RTI, special education and Medicaid records as required.
20.Participate in all professional development as determined by the Director of Student Services.
21.Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
